La trasferta di Udine è ormai diventata, per quanto mi riguarda, una tappa importante nel mio calendario personale: è un'occasione anche per rivedere un mio cugino trasferitosi in quella città da ormai quarant’anni. I friulani Inoltre sono persone cordiali, senza eccessi...
Il risveglio, nel giorno della gara, è quasi come quando ci si reca al Tardini solo che, nel tragitto, si vedono solo vessilli bianconeri; l'aria è sufficientemente calda, c'è un bel clima. Si entra in uno stadio bello, molto bello, totalmente coperto, l'atmosfera è stupenda e gli spalti cominciano a riempirsi: arrivano anche i tifosi crociati, non sono tanti ma si fanno sentire e noi dalla tribuna li salutiamo. Comincia la partita e da subito vediamo che il Parma è messo bene in campo, siamo circondati da gente di Udine ma possiamo tifare senza timore. Termina il primo tempo e siamo soddisfatti, abbiamo tenuto bene il campo e in cuor nostro pensiamo che un pareggio ci consentirebbe di fare un ulteriore passo verso la salvezza.
Comincia il secondo, entra Elphege si muove bene e alla prima occasione punisce la difesa bianconera. Rete!!!!! Esultiamo, da soli in mezzo a tutti loro, ma non ci dicono niente... E’ avanti il Parma e la gioia è tanta ma la partita è ancora lunga...
Continuiamo a giocare bene e Elphege sfiora la doppietta... Peccato!
Poi alla fine loro colpiscono la traversa e sbagliano un gol già fatto... Paura!!!! Poi i tre fischi ci liberano da questa tensione e ci consentono di agitare le nostre sciarpe... Vinciamo noi e dopo aver goduto appieno di questi momenti ci apprestiamo a lasciare lo stadio...
Nel tragitto per raggiungere l'auto parcheggiata si accosta a noi un papà con un bimbo: “Vengo da Bosnia – dice - è dal ‘95 che seguo Parma, forza Parma!”. Mi commuovo, prendo la sciarpa e la metto al collo del bimbo, lui con le lacrime agli occhi mi guarda e mi dice “grazie mille”... Sorrido e saluto...
E così con questo ultimo gesto terminiamo la trasferta...

The away game in Udine has become an important date in my calendar at this point because of how many times I’ve been going to see it: it’s an opportunity to see my cousin who moved there, forty years ago. What’s more, the Friulians are nice people and aren’t too crazy…
The wake-up on gameday is almost like when you go to the Tardini, only that on the way there, you see only white-and-black banners; the place is warm enough, and the weather’s nice. You enter a beautiful stadium, very beautiful, entirely covered, the atmosphere is amazing and the stands begin to fill up: the Parma fans also show up, there’s not a ton of them but they make themselves heard and we say hi to them from the grandstand. The game begins and right away we see that Parma is holding their own, we’re surrounded by people from Udine but we’re able to cheer without worrying. The first half ends and we’re satisfied, we held our own well, and in our hearts we think that a tie would constitute another step forward towards survival for us.
The second half begins, Elphege comes on moving well
and at the first chance he gets, he punishes the Udinese defense. Goal!!!!! We
cheer alone, in the middle of everyone, but they don’t say anything…. Parma is
in the lead and you can feel the joy, but there’s still a lot left to play…
We continue to play well and Elphege comes close to getting a brace… too bad!
Then, near the end they hit the crossbar and miss a gimme… scary!!!! Finally the three whistles free us from the tension and they let us hold up our scarves… We win and after fully enjoying the moment we get ready to leave the stadium…
On the way to the parking lot we meet a dad with his son: “I’m from Bosnia – he says – and I’ve been following Parma since ‘95, Go Parma!” I come over, grab my scarf and put it around the kid’s neck, he looks at me with tears and says “thank you so much”... I smile and say goodbye…
And this is the final moment of the away game…
